Since our founding in 1929, the Hoch- und Deutschmeister have stood for living history, genuine comradeship, and a strong link between past, present, and future. What began as an association of former members has grown into a vibrant community, preserving one of Austria’s most significant military traditions.
Closely connected with the Jägerbataillon Wien 1 „Hoch- und Deutschmeister“ of the Austrian Armed Forces, we continue the over 330-year history of the Deutschmeister Regiment – right in the heart of Vienna and at the center of society. As one of Vienna’s two militia battalions, the unit represents readiness, responsibility, and living tradition in modern militia service.
Experience tradition and community - we look forward to your visit!
We preserve the historical legacy of the Deutschmeister, make it tangible, and combine it with the values of today. Comradeship, social cohesion, responsibility, and identity are at the core of everything we do. Through a wide range of activities, events, and educational initiatives, we support the active battalion and foster dialogue between history and the present.
Anniversary Year 2026 – 330 Years of the Deutschmeister
A very special milestone awaits: in 2026 we celebrate 330 years of the Deutschmeister. The highlight will be a grand ceremonial act on 18 June 2026 at Vienna’s Stephansplatz, followed by a Pontifical Mass at St. Stephen’s Cathedral and a reception at the House of the Teutonic Order. This exceptional anniversary will showcase the proud history and enduring spirit of the Deutschmeister in the very heart of Vienna.
Whether you are a comrade, history enthusiast, or friend of our community, you are warmly invited to join us for this historic celebration and to actively participate in our ongoing tradition.
